Gr. 7 Mathletes Unite!

This week we are discovering the relationships between decimal numbers, fractions, and percentages.
I found a really cool site on Discovering Relationships between decimal numbers, fractions, and percentages for you to check out and explore this week.
Your challenge is to go to the site and click on the game link. Read the instructions and play the game titled compare all three. Choose Level A or B to begin and work up to Level C.  This is a great way to practice your skills!
Your next task is to complete the quizzes. Start with the Level A quiz and then proceed to Level B and C quizzes. Print your results for your Level B and C quizzes and bring them to class to receive credit!

If you need more support view this Explanation Video . A teacher discusses how to compare all three.

Hello Parents. Thank you for supporting your child's learning.
This weeks activities will help your child achieve the Gr. 7 Number Sense and Numeration expectation:
-represent, compare, and order decimals to hundredths, fractions, and percentages using a variety of tools.
Please encourage your students to develop their understanding of the comparisons between decimals, fractions, and percentages. If you think your child will benefit from more practice you can also direct them to the worksheet section  where you will find lots of additional activities to practice these skills. Also, be sure to check out the Explanation Video above to gain a better understanding of the content.

There is also a link at the bottom of the page to a BrainPOP video about food chains that you should check out.

Click on the Food Chains MCQ link at the bottom of the main page. Complete the quiz, print it out, and bring it to school.

Hello Parents!
We are currently studying the Life Systems: Interactions in the Environment science unit. Your child is expected to complete the activities outlined above in efforts to meet the following curriculum expectation:
Understanding Life Systems: Interactions In the Environment
3.4 describe the transfer of energy in a food chain and explain the effects of the elimination of any part of the chain
Please encourage your child to review the information and videos that were assigned to them. The information is very helpful and will reinforce the concepts they are learning in class. If you feel as though your child will benefit from additional opportunities to learn and reinforce the concepts, please direct them to the Worksheet Menu link at the bottom of the main page. It will take them to a page with 6 interactive activities under the title of Food Chains and Webs. Have your child complete some of these activities to develop their understanding of energy transfer in ecosystems.

Support Links for Everyday Learning

Hi everyone!
Here are a few valuable resources that I use on a daily basis to find out information and learn new things. Be sure to check them out the next time you have a question.

Dictionary.com   This is an excellent place to find definitions of words. It also includes thesaurus, encyclopedia and translator tools. A thesaurus is a tool that gives you words that have a similar meaning to a word that you start with. This is valuable when you are writing something because it helps you expand your vocabulary.
An encyclopedia is an excellent research tool because it gives you general information about a topic. Use an encyclopedia to start a research project and then look for more specific information about the topic you have chosen. Translator tools might help you complete your French homework by allowing you to input a word in either French or English and translate it to the other language.

Khan Academy This resource provides access to millions of quick lessons about math and science topics. If you don't understand a math process look here for a step by step explanation video.
